Toronto, ON October 27, 2009 -- Toronto Antiques on King recently sold an Art Deco sculpture of a woman to The Roosevelt Room Supper Club in Toronto after renting it to prop stylists for the set of the movie Amelia.
The exquisite female sculpture stands four and half feet tall and, until recently, commanded attention standing proudly at the front jewellery counter of Cynthia Findlay's King Street West antique store, Toronto Antiques on King & The Cynthia Findlay Collection. The store, which was formerly known as Toronto's Harbourfront Antique Market, has been a local favourite for collectors, designers, and prop stylists for 30 years.
Prop rentals to movies and television programs that film in Toronto is a service that is commonly used at Toronto Antiques on King, with a roster of films to their name including Chicago, The Time Travelers Wife, The Love Guru, and now Amelia.
Amelia is a period film staring Hilary Swank and Richard Gere. It tells the story of legendary American pilot Amelia Earhart, which is set in the early 20th century. The Art Deco statue used in the film is a wonderful example of the style and design of the period, and will surely help to set a stylistic and historical tone for the film. Amelia opened in theatres on Friday, October 23rd, 2009.
The Art Deco aesthetic seems to be quickly developing into a trend to watch. From the set of a movie to a prime spot at Toronto's first true supper club, The Roosevelt Room, this Art Deco female sculpture is leading the way in design and fashion. The Roosevelt Room, which is holding its Grand Opening on November 7th, combines entertainment, fine dining and a luxurious 1920's Art Deco atmosphere.
Toronto Antiques on King has a large selection of Art Deco objects, from jewellery, to silver, fine art, sculptures, ceramics, and more.
The store is open every day from 10am until 6pm (closed Mondays).
