Chorley's forthcoming blockbuster sale on Thursday 22nd October at Prinknash Abbey Park, Gloucester, GL4 8EX has a strong picture section which includes a charming painting by Sophie Anderson entitled 'Little Bo Peep' est £12,000-15.000. This may be a portrait of Anderson's daughter who is also said to be the sitter for 'No Walk Today', her iconic work of Victorian childhood recently sold as part of the Sir David Scott Collection at Sotheby's. Another highlight is a fine work by John Frederick Herring senior, signed and dated 1848, est £6000-8000. There is a fine orientalist watercolour by Carl Werner, dated 1867 est £2000-3000. Various lots will appeal to lovers of British history, one being three studies by the artist George Jones RA who became famous for his paintings of military subjects including 'The Battle of Waterloo' which hangs at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea. There is also an unmistakable portrait of the Duke of Wellington by William Salter RA, est £3000-4000, and a good collection of miniatures including an enamel miniature of George IV as Prince Regent, by Henry Bone, RA. There are also many pieces of furniture from the Collection of the late Captain E P Wilson of Ryelands Farm, Taynton, Gloucestershire. Ryelands farm had the classic English country house look and buyers will be spoilt for choice. There is a group of Moorcroft pottery and includes some of the most popular designs decorated with vivid jewel-like flowers on distinctive deep blue backgrounds. And for something quirky there is a a silver mounted leather bombard dated 1646.
