Chorley's Autumn Auction A broad cross-section of antiques and collectables will go under the hammer including strong sections of porcelain, silver, jewellery and furniture on 24th September at Chorley's.
Chorley's Autumn sale schedule opens on Thursday 24 September (Prinknash Abbey Park, Gloucestershire, GL4 8EX) when a broad cross-section of antiques and collectables will go under the hammer including strong sections of porcelain, silver, jewellery and furniture. Anyone looking to furnish and decorate their house will be spoilt for choice and the inclusion of a lighting section will offer interior designers and private buyers a variety of light fittings. There is a collection of portrait miniatures as well as books. Among the books to be sold is Volume 1 of the much-loved Giles Cartoons, originally printed in the Daily Express and Sunday Express (est £200-250). The first volume, published in 1946, is now quite hard to come by. There are two lots in the silver section with a Royal connection, lot 218 and lot 219. Of local interest to Gloucestershire are the books on Gloucestershire by Sir Robert Atkyns and Samuel Rudder. Published in 1768, the Atkyns includes copperplate engravings of the coats of arms and country seats of the foremost Gloucestershire families, together with maps and plans of the city of Gloucester. With its gilt tooled calf binding this copy, Lot 11, has an estimate of £2,500-3.000. The furniture section includes two 18th cenutry oak dressers which always prove popular and an elegant Regency double scroll end sofa. There is also a stunning selection of jewellery inlcuding a yellow sapphire and diamond cluster ring.
