There will be several hundred foreign coins from 100 different countries including a 1791 Colonial Mexico 8 Reales Mexican Coin, 1880 Azores Islands 5 Reis Portugal Portuguese Coin, 1928 1/2 Crown Ireland 1st Year Irish Coin. Some of the more unusual countries featured will be East Africa, Maldive Islands, Ceylon, Azores Islands, Luxembourg, Tunisia and many others.
There are coin lots starting at $1 and going as high as $675 for opening bids. There is a great variety of affordable coins from many geographical locations, including ancients!
Martin Shape, President of Universal, is one of the foremost collectors of items from the 1933-34 Chicago "Century of Progress" Worlds Fair. He lectures on this fair and has as many as 10,000 items from the fair including many coins and medals.This fair contained Art Deco medals and coins. He compares the Deco style to many designs used in the coins featured in this auction.
