Size: 275 cm x 392 cm
Top investment opportunity.
Some 80 years ago this carpet found it's way to Austria and can be purchased now.
At the upper border we can find 5 Chinese characters referring to the place it has been used: " The Jing Ren - Palace of the Forbidden City " in Beijing, where Emperor Kangxi was born.
This so called " Jing Ren Palace " used to be the palace of the first wife or the favorite concubine of the Chinese Emperors. As this carpet belonged to a female member of the Imperial Court, a phoenix, the symbol of the Empress, is to be found in the centre of the carpet.
The dragon at the upper part of the carpet symbolizes the Son of Heaven, the Chinese Emperor. Futile rain, condensed from the clouds, are coming from the dragon's mouth and nostrils, fresh the earth.
The fabric of the carpet consists of wool and metal. It is completely intact and well preserved. It belonged to a Chinese lady who resided in Austria and it is now in private possession.
Rare as it is it would fit to collections of museums as well as private collections or representational offices.
The carpet has been displayed in several exhibitions:
- Volkskunde Museum Wien, 2000 - 2001
- Kreuzbergl Museum, Klagenfurt. 2001
- Schloss Trautensee, Joanneum, Steiermark ( publication in the exhibition catalogue ).
