Art & Collectibles lead at OLD RED BARN AUCTION, May 2nd
Cuddebackville, NY.
The Old Red Barn's monthly auction will be held on Saturday May 2nd at 5 pm.
Buyers will find paintings by renown artists, collection of 19 th century prints, Victorian furniture,
maps, and numerous collectibles.
The Old Red Barn's monthly auctions are usually held on first Saturday evenings.
Buyers will find a good selection of artwork in this auction. Offered is an important oil painting on canvas
signed Baselitz, 72. The art style is described as postmodern or Neo-Expressionist and is
characterized by portraying recognizable figures, as the human body, in a rough and
emotional way, using vivid colors and interesting harmonies. The painting offered has an almost
transparent portrait of a woman who is seated in an inverted room typical of Baselitz
'a picture-within-a-picture' style of painting.
Interestingly, in 1971, Georg Baselitz had his first exhibition of paintings with upside-down motifs
in the Kunstmuseum Basel, Germany. The painting, which was in storage, is being offered for the first time.
Included are 2 abstract paintings by Joseph De Martini, B. Kathe watercolor, a Cubist collage,
Haitian Voodoo painting signed Francois Bellande, pair of Hudson Valley paintings signed Foster 99,
numerous woodblocks, engravings, and etchings by Henry Napartuk, Stella Drabkin, Otto Fried,
Charles Bragg, McGarrell, Jakob Steinhardt, Irwin Rosenhouse,
Woodstock litho by Emile Ganzo, LP Hutchinson and others. The auction features a collection of
19th Century prints by Currier & Ives, Stewart, Burnett, R Havel, A Heins, Denton, De Kay, JJ Audubon,
Gould, H Schlegel, Van Curt, Parburry & Allen, Meyer, Remington, H Thomson, etc.
Buyers will find early 19 Century to 1950s furniture including a tiger maple drop-side table,
a server in the Aesthetic style of the Victorian era, 2 door pine cabinet, desks, bookcase, tables,
oak Hoosier kitchen cabinet, floor model wind-up Victrola,
wicker furniture, dressers, a hard-to-find cashier's booth, Victorian upholsterer's work table, 2 fainting couches,
many stands, pair Windsor chairs, a hall seat with mirrored top, and many lamps, candle holders
and decorative items.
Collectibles include signed 19th Century Oriental cabinet porcelains,
a collection of Pre Columbian & Asian artifacts,
a 18 inch school house bell from Greenville NY, a squash blossom sterling & turquoise necklace,
Ivory necklace, a set of photographs signed Otto Litze,
several antique books 'Birds of North America' Jacob H. Studer 1888,
first edition 'Rock Plants' drawn by Arllette Davids 1939, books with etchings by Gustav Dore,
Flow Blue china, selection of mantle clocks, carved Oriental figures, bookends, oil lamps,
several leaded glass windows, 2 binders of gold plated stamps, baseball collectibles, a cello needing TLC,
JC Higgins 12 gauge, 2 antique muzzle loaders, Lefever Arms double barrel shotgun,
5 quilts, crocks as large as 50 gallons, counter-top display case, 2 Oriental rugs, yarn winder.
