HELLABY HALL HOSTS A LUXURY ANTIQUES WEEKEND The launch of the third in a series of small quality Luxury Antiques Weekends takes place in South Yorkshire S66 8SN from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 April 2009.
The Luxury Antiques Weekend at Hellaby Hall is made up of approximately twenty exhibitors, all members of either the prestigious British Antiques Dealers’ Association (www.bada.org) or LAPADA, the Association of Art & Antiques Dealers (www.lapada.org). Exhibitors are displaying an exciting and eclectic mix of unusual and decorative works of art including oil and watercolour paintings, town and country furniture, clocks, jewellery, sculpture, ceramics, oriental carpets, maps, prints and many other objets d’art, to tempt the first time buyer or the avid collector. Everything is for sale.
Set in the elegant and spacious surroundings of the Colonial Suite at Hellaby Hall, it offers the perfect place to spend a day seeing, and maybe purchasing, lovely antiques and works of art as well as chatting to the dealers, who are all specialists in their particular field.
Highlights include a watercolour from Books Illustrated entitled ‘Oh Love!’, the original image for the Book of Old English Songs and Ballads, published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1926, and painted by Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale RWS (1871-1945), price £20,000. She is perhaps most famous for reviving the Pre-Raphaelite style of painting at the end of the 19th century. Melody Antiques is exhibiting a glorious early 18th century Welsh oak dresser from Denbighshire, priced at £8,500. A very unusual and stylish 1940s triangular aquamarine in a diamond clip brooch pendant, specially commissioned for a lady, is being sold by Plaza for £5,500. Garret & Hurst Sculpture are bringing a bronze horse entitled ‘The Tired Hunter’ by the foremost English animalier sculptor of the 19th century, John Willis Good (1845-1879) priced at £12,975.
Long established dealers from the north of England are exhibiting including J Dickinson Maps & Prints from Derbyshire, Melody Antiques from Cheshire, Ryland Fine Art from East Yorkshire and M&N Oriental Rugs from Manchester. Dealers from other parts of the UK include Books Illustrated from Wiltshire, Garret & Hurst from West Sussex, and jewellery dealers, Plaza and Trivette.
“The Luxury Antiques Weekend concept has been very well received over the last year,” says Ingrid Nilson, fair organiser from The Antiques Dealers Fair Limited. “Small fairs with very high quality antiques and fine art on offer seem to be what the buying public like. It gives established collectors, as well as newcomers to the world of antiques, the opportunity to browse and shop in pleasant surroundings.”
