"Big Blue Who?" - Daryle Lambert - University of Kentucky If you have been a Kentuky Basketball collector, I think that the past has been thebest and the school is trying to end a dynasty. I believe it is the Louisville Cardinals time.
I am wondering what has happened to perhaps the greatest basketball dynasty in history. Adolph Rupp must be wringing his hands as he watches a mealy mouth athletic department and school administration destroy what he built.
I have been a Kentucky basketball fan for over fifty years but no more. In fact I will bleed “Red” from now on and my cheer will be for the Louisville Cardinals. If the University of Kentucky has the fourth best basketball program in Kentucky I would be surprised. My ranking would be Louisville, Western Kentucky and Murray State and then the U. of Kentucky. What a proud tradition this bumbling group of no names have ruined by humiliating such a great program as UK basketball.
I have no problem admitting that Kentucky had a bad season but Gillispie didn't shoot a basket as far as I can tell. They were shot by some young men that had been pampered all their lives and told they were the greatest from birth. However, they didn't have the talent to back up their words like Mohammad Ali.
How can you respect a program that fires a coach even before he has recruited his own players? Two years isn't long enough to get a program turned around from the previous failures. It looks to me that the coach was doing what he had done before and that was building a team that had heart, not one that thought that everyone should bow down to them.
So the coach had them practice hard but evidently not hard enough by looking at their record. The Kentucky basketball program will suffer for the next ten years because of turning the team over to the players and not backing their coach. Bob Knight, one of the greatest basketball coaches of all times, said the players will play my way or it is the highway for them, and the athletic department backed him up. Now he is in the basketball hall of fame and I hope the future holds the same for Coach Gillispie.
Now the yellow livered people say they don't want to pay Coach Gillispie what he is owed so I would like it to be known that if the coach would like to start a defense fund I am willing and wait for his call.
