David J. Lunin, a Lancaster, Pennsylvania furniture maker, is showing his furniture designs. David's earlier pieces are very strict reproductions of important antiques. His newer works meld 18th century design with his unique vision
of modern American furniture.
The artist says "I work in a small studio creating original, one of a kind pieces of furniture in wood. My background in 18th century American antiques has deeply influenced my work. When I first opened my shop I made very strict reproductions of important antiques. More recently I desired to make my own mark in the world of furniture design. I begin with traditional designs and give them a contemporary twist. What is never changed is the level of craftsmanship that was employed by colonial craftsmen. Hand cut dovetails as well as mortise and tenon joints are used throughout. I also prefer the use of traditional finishing material such as shellac and varnish. "
Many pieces of furniture representing his entire career
are available for purchase during regular shop hours. Food is served in the all Vegetarian Cafe located within the shop.
This event is open to the public and free of charge.
