Big News in the Western Art and Antiquities Market
The 20th Annual Cody Old West Show & Auction is Moving to Denver!
August, 2008 – The nation’s premier event for Cowboy, Indian and Western art and artifacts will be moving to the Denver Merchandise Mart for its 20th anniversary year. The two-day dealer show and 400-lot auction has been held in Cody, Wyoming for the last 19 years, growing from a small start-up enterprise to an award-winning, internationally recognized Western Art and Antique Event. The dates remain the same as always—the fourth weekend in June—so mark your calendars for Denver, June 26-28, 2009.
The Cody Old West Show & Auction will retain its Cody roots in its name and philosophy; and will, as always, feature the finest dealers in antique and contemporary Cowboy art and antiquities. Collectible spurs, saddles, and bits will be showcased, and some of the finest contemporary saddlemakers and leather-toolers in the world will be in attendance. In addition, historic Western items, especially those used by Old West outlaws and lawmen—badges, firearms, etc.—are available for discerning collectors and novices alike. Native American artifact dealers will also be in attendance, selling some of the finest beadwork, quillwork, rawhide and textiles available today.
With the new Denver Merchandise Mart location comes a great deal more available space. The 20th anniversary show will also feature designers and craftsmen of Western furniture for the home or lodge. The show’s coordinators are currently working with Western museums and organizations in developing ways to use the available show space to highlight their unique offerings. As always, important Western fine art is a big part of the event, and both classic and contemporary artists will be featured for sale and for auction.
Another big change along with the new venue will be a Sunday show opening. Traditionally, the show in Cody has been limited to Friday and Saturday. The greater size of the event and the larger local market make a Sunday opening not only possible, but preferable. This also allows us to present the auction on Saturday evening.
The city of Denver boasts one of the nation’s busiest and accessible airports, and also provides an enormous variety of options for lodging and dining. Outdoor activities abound in the surrounding areas, as do indoor activities like shopping and museum browsing.
The location may be changing, but you can be assured that the 20th anniversary celebration of the Cody Old West Show & Auction will be as exciting as ever.
