Rare concert posters and handbills promoting 1960s events, are not only historic references of times gone by, but future investments in masterpiece lithography by respected artists. Like Picasso and Lautrec, these works on paper could someday be the cream of the crop. Rick Griffin is known as one of the most prolific of the 1960s San Francisco scene, doing psychedelic, surfer and hot rod art for magazines, underground newspapers and concert promoters.
Featured in ths March 1st auction is a unique presentation piece featuring a first printing of the famous 1968 Jimi Hendrix Bill Graham BG105 Concert Poster, framed with a first printing handbill, a complete set of tickets from the 4 night show and an autographed page with a note written by Rick Griffin to his daughter’s friend. Also in the auction is a first printing of another Rick Griffin Jimi Hendrix Bill Graham Concert poster, BG140. Other Rick Griffin items include concert handbills and posters. Other Jimi Hendrix items include handbills, photographs, posters, standee and magazines.
The auction will feature 50 years of rock n roll history, records and memorabilia including Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, The Who, The Grateful Dead, Ten Years After, 1960s through 1990s concert posters, handbills, programs and tickets including the Fillmore, Avalon and Grande Ballrooms, plus authentically autographed items, Rock Festivals and other interesting artifacts.
