Being in the collectibles business, I attend a lot of shows throughout the year. And typically I write a post show article covering the types of collectibles and interesting dealers encountered at the show. This year my husband and two young daughters plus grandma and grandpa accompanied me to the IDEX Doll and Teddy Bear Show (www.idexshows.com). The thought was they could enjoy the warm weather and Disney attractions while Mom worked the show.
They in fact did enjoy the Disney attractions and (a little) warm weather; however their presence gave me other insights into the show that I may have missed otherwise.
The artists, sellers and promoters at IDEX have an overwhelming commitment to young girls. Despite the fact that these little doll lovers do not have the capital to purchase most of the beautiful artist dolls and bears, they received a massive amount of attention from everyone!
Seventy five giggling, exuberant Girls Scouts visited the show on Saturday. Their first stop was a visit with Bev White of Happy Tymes Collectibles (www.happytymes.net) to make cute little cuddly critters. Bev’s Teddies to Go are a great way to introduce youngsters to the artistry of teddy bears. From there the Scouts spilled onto the show floor for a scavenger hunt coordinated by Madavor. A multitude of artists and sellers participated and the girls were treated to all sorts of goodies. The scouts also got to see first hand the amazing creativity and artistry involved in the making dolls and bears.
The proverbial cherry on the top of the sundae - - each girl received her very own Karito Kids Doll care of Laura and Lisa of KidsGive (www.karitokids.com). These dolls are meant to be played with and educate young girls that “…kids around the world are pretty much the same, and given the chance want to help each other”.
For the short periods of time my daughters popped into the show, they also received the royal treatment. Both were enthralled with the funky dolls from Inspire U., LLC. (www.friendsforevergirls.com) and although they did not know it were in for a big surprise from Kristi and Lisa… Each was asked to pick their favorite Friends Forever Girls® doll to take home! The Friends Forever Girls® are more than just dolls. Founder of Inspire U. Lisa Necochea explains “As a mom, what makes The Friends Forever Girls® so special is the Butterfly Promise that the girls make to each other. The girls (doll characters) created it in the first book, The First Day of Forever, and use it to navigate through their life and friendship:
Be the best I can be
Use kindness and be fair
Tell the truth
Treat others the way I want to be treated
Encourage my friends
Respect myself and others
Find the courage to do what's right
Listen to others and remember...
You can do it!
