ANDERSON'S RESTORATIONS to be at NC STATE HISTORY MUSEUM Anderson's Restorations, located in Yadkinville,NC ,will be at the NC State History Museum March 20-22, 2009, from 1-3pm.
Anderson's Restorations has been ask to be at the North Carolina State History Museum in Raleigh on March 20-22, 2009from 1-3pm to give a demonstration and discussion of some of the many types and styles of chair seat weaving. Some of the seating styles to be discussed are chair caning, fibre & natural rush seating, ash,oak and flat reed splint, danish cord and shaker tape along with others. We will be not only showing the various materials used in seat weaving, but the different patterns that are used such as spider web and lace used in chair caning and the different weaves used with reed and cane such as Carolina Close Weave,Fingerlakes Fan Weave and Herringbone Weave. we will have samples to also show some of the materials that can be used to change an existing material such as fibre rush to splint.
Also being displayed, will be samples of the various materials used in the making of wicker furniture from round and flat reed, rattan, willow, seagrass and fibre or "paper" wicker. The fibre was the only material used on the "Lloyd Loom" type of wicker.
We will be weaving with some of these materials each day and will have samples for the public to handle and take with them if they desire. All questions will be welcome.
