On April 5th, 08 Saturday afternoon at 2pm in the store, "Second Hand Sensations" located at 44 Main St. Gardner MA, Walt Kolenda will launch an experimental "Micro-Auction" a concept he invented and plans to perpetuate into a live auction business model. What the heck is a Micro-Auction? Well, it runs along all of the same basic principles of a regular auction, and despite it's name, can have just as many lots as a regular auction. Walt's excited because the Micro end of things comes in with the amount of work, preparation, advertising and inventory acquisition required. It involves very low overhead for the shop owner and as well as being a fantastic way to gain exposure for the business, it's a great way to turn over stock and generate cash flow. A Micro-Auction Walt explains, "is an auction that takes place right inside a shop or store, with existing inventory plus some fresh additions".
The sale is promoted throughout the month by store banners, online advertising, word of mouth, and good old fashioned hand bill posting. The sale is a standing only auction and the only workers required are one auction scribe, one cashier, and one licensed auctioneer. Of course since it will be a busy day, the shop owner may want to have extra help on hand to handle other store business, see, the normal business of the shop goes on as well. How it works is, after the registration and announcement process (the same which apply to any auction) the auctioneer walks over to the area of the store in which the owner has preselected auction items and starts to auction. From then on it's basically the same as any other auction except people are standing and there is other shop business going on around the auction.
Walt plans to develop, outline and package a set of Micro-Auction instructions and make them available in an eBook format via his web site www.auctionwally.com so that anyone can put a micro auction together in their own shop. He hopes to have the eBook available for download by April 20th. He also hires out his auction services and is available for consulting. He's been in the auction business for more than 25 years, and has a well known Internet presence. Just recently he published his first eBook on selling valuable Baseball cards.
He operates under MA auction license# 2621.
